Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers of the Philippines

Tulungan sa Oras ng Pangangailangan, Kapit Bisig Bayaw.

Bantay ABE: Tulong Bayaw Network is a dayong: members share the cost when one of them, or their family, is hit by a death or a hospitalization. Every peso is tracked in the open, what comes in and what is given out. It is not an investment and nobody earns from it; the platform only helps keep the records and the accounting.

Why this exists

A program built on bayanihan

Context and background

Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers (ABEs) are the backbone of agricultural modernization, countryside development and infrastructure advancement across the Philippines. They work in offices and in rigorous field environments — from remote rural project sites and municipal outposts to disaster-recovery zones — and often face occupational hazards, high-stress project demands and unexpected financial vulnerabilities.

Professional organizations provide solidarity in career development, yet members and their families still bear the sudden, overwhelming costs of medical emergencies, critical hospitalization or an untimely passing. No engineer should face severe hardship in isolation. Bantay ABE: Tulong Bayaw Network is a member-funded, transparent mutual aid system rooted in the Filipino ethos of bayanihan and mutual professional care.

What we set out to do

1

Timely help

Structured assistance for death and hospitalization that eases the immediate economic burden on families.

2

Radical transparency

A digital, member-driven platform where every peso contributed, paid out and tracked is accountable to the community.

3

Professional solidarity

A deep sense of solidarity, brotherhood and shared responsibility among agricultural and biosystems engineers nationwide.

How it stays fair

The program runs on dayong. When a member is in need, the cost is divided equally among all active members, so each person gives only a small share and nobody carries it alone. It is not insurance and not an investment: nobody earns a return from it. Keeping your balance topped up keeps you part of the dayong. The Kauban platform only provides the tools for the records and the accounting; it does not invest or lend the money.

Our commitment

True engineering is about building resilient foundations — not only in structures and agriculture, but within our community. Bantay ABE embodies our shared commitment to look out for one another, with help that arrives when it is needed most.

Fund activity

Contributions vs. assistance, last 6 months

Contributions inAssistance dispensed
Membership

A member is active once their first top-up is confirmed, and stays part of the dayong while their balance is zero or more. There are no fixed monthly dues: when a claim is paid, its amount is divided equally by all members and each part is taken from the member’s balance. If it turns negative, their waiting period stops running and neither they nor their beneficiaries can receive assistance until they top up.

Dayong

What members receive

Assistance is paid from the pooled fund. A member’s death assistance is shared equally by the spouse and up to 4 children they list. Members and their listed beneficiaries can claim the same assistance, except the pabaon, which is for the member only. Membership continues after the main ABE member’s death: the family stays in the program for as long as the balance is kept at zero or more. See the full program rules.

Safety nets

What happens when a balance goes negative

1

Negative: −₱1 to −₱50

The member’s waiting period stops running until they top up again.

2

Nothing is paid while negative

If something happens while the balance is negative, the member is not eligible and the beneficiaries cannot receive assistance.

3

Beyond −₱50

Same as above, and after settling everything owed the member waits another 3 months before any assistance can be paid again.

All payables must be settled before help resumes. Topping up on time keeps the dayong fair for everyone.

How it works

Three steps

1

Register

Sign up with your PRC license number, then upload a photo of your PRC ID and a selfie so a coordinator can verify you. List your spouse and up to 4 children.

2

Make your first top-up

Top up the first amount by GCash, bank transfer or cash to a treasurer. A flat fee is taken from each top-up for your chapter, region, the national office and the platform. Once it is confirmed, your membership is active and your waiting periods begin.

3

Stay active

Keep your balance topped up. When a member needs help, the amount is divided equally between all members and each part comes out of your balance. Help is paid from the shared fund when a member passes away, is hospitalized, or retires with a pabaon.
